Internship: IOT demonstration platform

Duration: 6 months
Providing embedded devices with connectivity options changed from a “nice to have feature” to a “must have feature” in the last decade. This resulted in a broad development of wired/wireless communication devices, communication/security protocols and server/backend solutions.
For DEMCON there is a wish to have an IOT demonstration platform where different technologies can be tested and demonstrated. Initial goals would be:
- Use a standard cloud based IOT server platform such as amazon or Microsoft azure and communicate with Ethernet connected device and research the different message protocols. Create a demonstration which allows devices configuration, readback of sensor data and device status and perform firmware upgrades.
- Extend the demonstration platform with a device which is able to communicate over a wireless communication network (4G). Within this aspect of your assignment, connectivity costs (data, keepalive) are important factors.
- Setup an own backed server which allows full control of the backend solution.
- Allow for future extend with for example LORA devices.
You will be a part of the software engineering department. During your internship, you will be supervised by your software engineering colleagues.
