Group Leader Mechatronic System Engineering – Hightech Systems
Do you identify with these characteristics: energetic, motivating, coaching and inspiring? Are you enthusiastic about managing a group of engineers with passion for technology? Do you have experience developing products, such as devices and machines? If so, you are the Group Leader Mechatronic Systems Engineering (MSE) we are looking for! As Group Leader Mechatronic Systems Engineering you are the point of contact for the business unit High-Tech in Best, the Netherlands.
DEMCON develops high-tech systems and medical systems for third parties. The High-Tech Systems (HTS) business unit has a highly diverse group of national and international customers ranging from analytical instrumentation, highly complex qualification tools for semiconductor partners to high-end industrial systems. A third recently created business unit is Data Science. We are expanding our portfolio by integrating machine learning into the mechatronic systems. The Best branch also includes ‘Product BVs’, such as Macawi Respiratory Systems, that introduce their own products to the market.
The Mechatronic Systems Engineering (MSE) department
We have organised the various competencies required for this into departments. The MSE department fulfils a central role in the design process at DEMCON. Work on obtaining solutions for complex technical issues is performed in multidisciplinary project teams. Engineers do this based on the V model: translating the customer’s demand into a technical specification, conceiving of a solution, engineering and detailed design, making or having the components made and, subsequently, the integration and verification of subsystems and the entire system, followed by validation and, if applicable, organising unit/serial production. The MSE department is responsible for the mechatronics expertise and supplies the systems engineers that provide technical expertise to the project in all of the above-referenced phases of product development.
In Best, the MSE department consists of 34 engineers who have developed into mechatronics or systems engineers based on their technical background in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, physics, electrical engineering, software or biomedical technology. You will jointly manage this driven team of engineers. Due to the branch’s strong growth, we have decided to split up the department into two equal groups. The engineers can be assigned to any Demcon project, but the group leaders are the point of contact for one of the two above-referenced business units.
This is what your day as Group Leader looks like:
As group leader, you are the face of the department and you occupy a key position in the company. You have an enterprising attitude that allows you to take the department to a higher level, and will therefore deliver a significant contribution to the further growth of DEMCON Best.
Your main task will be the (further) development of human capital within the department: develop employees through suitable projects and coach and train them in these projects. At the same time you safeguard the competencies of your team this way.
In addition, you provide for the appropriate facilities and set up and improve working methodologies. Department development is strategic and fits in with the needs of the current and the future market. For this purpose you maintain a network in the region, for example with TU/e and Fontys, and relevant professional organisations. In addition to developing, coaching and appraising your people, you will fulfil operational tasks such as assigning employees to projects and monitoring contributions. You are responsible for the quality and the efficiency of the work of your employees in projects. Close collaboration with our business unit managers, project managers and group leaders of other departments and branches forms the foundation for successful operations.
Your background, competencies and experience
- Completed technical university degree;
- Affinity with one of the medical technology or high-tech systems business units;
- Several years experience developing systems from concept to realisation;
- Experience in the technical and non-technical management of teams in an R&D setting;
- Strong communication skills on all levels (team, customer and internal);
- You are a bridge builder between people, departments and projects;
- You have an inspiring personality: you are a people manager;
- You identify with the DEMCON core values: committed, customer-oriented and cooperative;
- Excellent command of written and spoken Dutch and English.
You will be joining a growing and innovative company at DEMCON. Since we are so enterprising, we commit fully to complex technical projects. We assume responsibility to deliver added value and to continue until the system is operational in multidisciplinary teams. You will have a challenging and varied job and the opportunity to develop. You can continue with your training to ensure that you can further develop your career. We will positively encourage you to use your own initiative. All of this linked to a salary that is in line with the market and with flexible terms and conditions of employment.
Thanks to enthusiastic and committed colleagues, the lines of communication in our organisation are short and the working environment is open and informal. Your contact with colleagues both on the work floor and outside will be pleasant. We have an active staff association that regularly organises outings, activities and an annual weekend away.
